Gabriel Orozco emerged as a defining voice in the global art scene of the 1990s. The Mexican conceptual artist captivated audiences with his ability to transform the mundane into something quietly profound and intellectually resonant.

Born in 1962 in Jalapa, Veracruz, Orozco began his formal training at the National School of Fine Arts (UNAM) in Mexico City and later at the Círculo de Bellas Artes in Madrid. His work encourages viewers to reimagine everyday objects, forming unexpected associations and uncovering meaning where most would see none. This subtle yet radical approach is the essence of his creative genius.

Over the years, Gabriel Orozco has received numerous accolades, including the REDCAT Award, the Cultural Achievement Award, and in 2012, was named an Officier des Arts et des Lettres by the French Ministry of Culture. In 2006, he was awarded the Blauorange Kunstpreis by Germany’s Volksbanken und Raiffeisenbanken.
His practice knows no borders. A true nomadic artist, Orozco lives and works between Tokyo, New York, Mexico City, and Paris, bringing his minimalist, conceptual aesthetic to museums and galleries across the world. Through installations, sculptures, drawings, and photography, he challenges traditional notions of form, context, and value.
Gabriel Orozco redefines what it means to observe, perceive, and appreciate. By elevating the overlooked, he opens a portal to new perspectives—turning the ordinary into the extraordinary.
