Once associated with extravagance and excess—palatial structures, rare materials, and the domination of nature—luxury is now undergoing a meaningful transformation. In destinations where the landscape takes center stage, luxury is being redefined through silence, integration, and environmental awareness. It is in this spirit that Kymaia was born: a boutique hotel on Playa El Puertecito, Oaxaca, that proves sophistication and nature not only coexist—they elevate each other.

The Rise of Sustainable Luxury

Across the hospitality industry, there is a visible shift toward sustainable luxury—one that prioritizes the well-being of guests while safeguarding ecosystems and supporting local communities. More than certifications or rhetoric, this philosophy centers on intentional design, low environmental impact, and a commitment to long-term regeneration.

Kymaia fully embraces this new standard, ensuring that every architectural, culinary, and operational decision follows a regenerative logic.

Architecture Rooted in the Land

Kymaia’s architectural design was led by the acclaimed Mexican firm PRODUCTORA, known for its context-sensitive and material-driven approach. The hotel features 22 suites spread across 1.5 hectares, each offering complete privacy and uninterrupted views of the Pacific Ocean.

Constructed using compact earth berms made on site, the structures offer natural shadethermal insulation, and protective enclosure. Drawing inspiration from pre-Hispanic ruins, the design achieves a visual dialogue between architectural geometry and organic growth, merging harmoniously with the surrounding landscape.

Spaces Designed for Minimal Environmental Impact

Common areas reflect the same philosophy. The hotel’s main restaurant sits under a 10-meter-high palapa built from local palm fronds, a traditional structure that shelters an elevated platform housing both an open kitchen and dining area. The result: cross ventilationnatural light, and constant views of the sea.

The Shala, a space dedicated to yoga and mindfulness, features a square floor plan topped with a circular roofsupported by columns that rest directly on the sand. Its design fosters shadeopen-air connection, and access to a rooftop terrace with panoramic views of Pacific sunsets.

From a sustainability standpoint, Kymaia integrates solar panelsconstructed wetlands for natural wastewater treatmentrainwater harvesting systems, and efficient lighting. Its landscape restoration plan focuses on native flora within three distinct ecological zones—El Guayacán (wetlands), El Palmar, and La Nopalera—which also serve as educational spaces for guests.

Community, Wellness, and Conscious Dining

Kymaia’s environmental values extend to local partnerships, such as its collaboration with Pueblo del Sol, a regenerative initiative that supplies organic ingredientshandmade cosmetics, and ceramics for the hotel’s rooms and dining areas. These alliances promote fair tradecultural preservation, and local employment.

At the heart of Kymaia’s culinary experience is Septimus, a restaurant led by renowned chef Eduardo García, alongside Gabriela López and Fernanda Martínez. The menu honors Oaxacan ingredients through responsible practices like the Ikejime fishing methodseasonal sourcing, and a culinary narrative that bridges tradition and modernity. The experience is further enriched by Huachinango Bar and La Cueva, completing a multi-sensory gastronomic journey in tune with the land.
