Madrid is a quintessential travel destination. Its vibrant culinary scene—both traditional and cutting-edge—its rich cultural offerings, welcoming people, and, of course, its top-tier hospitality make the Spanish capital ideal for a full vacation or a stylish stopover on your way elsewhere.

One of the most important parts of any trip is, without a doubt, where you stay. Yet we don’t always give ourselves the chance to explore new options, especially if we’re used to checking into the same hotel every time. Enter The Principal Madrid, a modern boutique hotel backed by the prestige and excellence of Único Hotels.
Located on Gran Vía, in the very heart of the city, this property offers unbeatable access to everything Madrid has to offer. Within walking distance, you’ll find the city’s most iconic museums—Museo del Prado, Thyssen-Bornemisza, Reina Sofía, and CaixaForum—as well as countless bars, restaurants, and shops, perfect for a chic Madrid shopping spree.
Until The Principal opened in 2015, this part of the city lacked a true five-star hotel. Thanks to its prime location, guests can enjoy some of the most spectacular panoramic views of Madrid right from their rooms or the hotel’s common areas.

Rooms
With 76 rooms ranging from 19 m² to 70 m², The Principal offers something for every kind of traveler. Each room includes a work desk, high-speed Wi-Fi, international plug adapters, Bluetooth sound systems, tea and infusion kits, and a massage shower with adjustable water jets for a fully relaxing experience. For added comfort, butler service and private airport transfers are also available.
Dining at The Principal Madrid
Ático Restaurant
On the hotel’s sixth floor, you’ll find the Ático Restaurant—an elegant, eclectic space that feels both refined and effortlessly comfortable. Breakfast is served here daily, featuring a buffet of cheese, charcuterie, fresh bread, fruit, juices, and hot à la carte dishes. The menu for lunch and dinner was crafted by Ramón Freixa, a Michelin two-star chef, ensuring a truly elevated dining experience.

La Terraza
During warmer months, guests can head up to the hotel’s rooftop La Terraza for signature cocktails and bites, all while enjoying breathtaking city views from the highest point of the property.

Wellness & Activities
While the hotel’s location makes it easy to explore Madrid’s top attractions, there are also several ways to unwind without leaving the premises. Bask in the sun in the Solarium with curated playlists, refresh under the outdoor showers in summer, or book a session at the Wellness Suite—complete with sauna and treatments for solo guests or couples.
For those craving more activity, The Principal also offers a Personal Trainer service at the gym, or curated running routes through Retiro Park.
