Galería Hilario Galguera, in collaboration with Casa HOTBOOK, presents Horizontes mexicanos, a solo exhibition by Belgian artist Stijn Cole in Mexico City. The exhibition opened on May 15, 2026, at Casa HOTBOOK in Lomas de Chapultepec and brings together a selection of works developed from the artist’s experience and observation of the Mexican landscape during his stay in the country in 2022.
Known for exploring the relationships between perception, color, time, and territory, Cole constructs a visual investigation in which the landscape no longer functions solely as representation, but rather as a system of luminous measurement and spatial memory. Through chromatic data and visual records collected during various journeys across Mexico, the artist transforms the horizon into a structure of temporal and sensory analysis.
The works featured in Horizontes mexicanos condense the experience of the environment through highly precise geometric compositions. Each piece functions as a record of specific atmospheric variations, translating the intensity of light into abstract sequences of color and material. Through this process, the artist develops a practice that oscillates between the scientific and the contemplative, articulating a reflection on the ways we inhabit and perceive landscape.
The exhibition incorporates materials such as marble and ceramic to give physical permanence to essentially ephemeral phenomena. The different series establish a dialogue between radical abstraction and geological materiality, while also integrating references to local artisanal processes. The result is a constant tension between the intangible nature of light and the tangible precision of matter.
Beyond a conventional landscape interpretation, Stijn Cole’s work proposes an exploration of the boundaries between perception, documentation, and experience. His practice belongs to a contemporary lineage that understands landscape not merely as image, but as an archive of time, memory, and physical presence.

Horizontes Mexicanos, by Stijn Cole, will remain open to the public beginning May 16, 2026, at Casa HOTBOOK in Mexico City and will be on view throughout May and June.
