Each year, ODENTIO Hospitality Strategists publishes its Annual Boutique Hotel Trends Report—widely regarded as one of the most cited references in Mexico’s luxury hospitality sector. In this latest edition, its founder and CEO, Hannan Zanzuri, shares with HOTBOOK the key forces shaping premium hotel experiences in 2026: from the end of “standardized luxury” to the rise of functional wellness, as well as artificial intelligence and regenerative sustainability.
ODENTIO celebrates its 10th anniversary in May 2026.

Who is Hannan Zanzuri
With more than three decades in the hospitality industry, Hannan Zanzuri began his career in 1987 at Hyatt International Hotels, where he refined his expertise in sales and marketing. Over the course of 25 years, he held leadership roles across Europe and Mexico—including General Manager and Regional Director of Marketing for Mexico and Central America.
His time in Amsterdam and London as Vice President of Marketing and Business Development at The Set Collectionsolidified his position within the ultra-luxury segment. In 2016, he founded ODENTIO, a company now celebrating its tenth anniversary, transforming the management of luxury boutique hotels in Mexico through a focus on strategy, revenue, and cultural authenticity.
His portfolio includes award-winning properties such as L’Otel Casa Arca (MICHELIN Key) and El Perdido, recipient of the Icon of Design Award.

The Interview
What defines a world-class boutique hotel in 2026?
Hannan Zanzuri: The most important shift is what we at ODENTIO call the end of “standardized luxury”—or what we refer to as “beige luxury.” In the past, exclusivity was measured by opulence and uniformity. Today, 83% of high-end travelers are seeking what we define as “Author-Driven Hospitality.”
By 2026, a world-class boutique hotel is one that offers asymmetrical cultural immersion and endemic design. True luxury today lies in access to the authentic. In heritage properties such as Cigno (Ermita and Mejorada) in Mérida, or Luuna de Jade, artisanal interiors and architecture are not simply decorative—they act as storytellers of the destination.
At ODENTIO, we don’t create accommodations; through our philosophy, we create “Businesses with Soul.”
“True luxury today lies in access to the authentic. At ODENTIO, we don’t create accommodations—we create Businesses with Soul.”
How is premium hospitality integrating artificial intelligence and social commerce without losing warmth?
Hannan Zanzuri: It’s a fascinating paradox: we use the most advanced technology to become more human. The rule is simple—technology processes the transaction; humans deliver the emotion.
By 2026, hospitality social commerce will be the norm. Today’s travelers discover destinations through social platforms and expect to book within milliseconds. We see this reflected in vibrant concepts like Colony Residences & Suites.
However, within the ultra-luxury segment—such as L’Otel Casa Arca, proudly recognized with a MICHELIN Key—we rely on first-party data discipline. This means that if a guest prefers a specific type of pillow or coffee, our system remembers it. When they return, our concierge proactively anticipates those preferences, delivering a level of hyper-personalization that no machine can replicate.
Wellness in hospitality feels saturated. What’s next for the segment?
Hannan Zanzuri: The next step is moving beyond passive wellness—the traditional Swedish massage—and entering the era of longevity and functional wellness.
The ultra-luxury traveler is now seeking regeneration, sleep optimization, and true disconnection. Wellness will no longer be a simple amenity; it will become the primary reason for travel.
In projects such as El Perdido in Baja California Sur, or Bora Boutique in Puerto Escondido, the environment is intentionally designed to support mental health, deep rest, and reconnection with circadian rhythms.
We’re not offering a one-hour spa treatment—we’re offering a refuge where the world pauses so you can begin again.
“Wellness will no longer be an amenity—it will become the reason for travel.”
How can a luxury hotel avoid greenwashing and create real sustainable impact?
Hannan Zanzuri: Reducing harm is no longer enough—the standard for 2026 is regenerative sustainability.
Today’s guest is highly informed and can immediately recognize empty promises. To be authentic, the business model must actively restore the destination and empower the local community—from construction through operations.
Properties like Punta Nayaá, with its views over an ecological reserve, or El Perdido, recognized with the Icon of Design Award, are tangible examples.
Their bioclimatic design and organic integration with the environment demonstrate that decarbonized luxury doesn’t compromise comfort—it elevates it by making it ethical and responsible.

Mexico will co-host the 2026 World Cup. What is ODENTIO’s vision for capitalizing on this moment and trends like blended travel?
Hannan Zanzuri: The World Cup will create unprecedented market compression, but the challenge is avoiding short-term strategies like irrational price inflation.
Our strategy operates on two fronts. On one side, managing high volume and dynamic demand in flagship properties such as Seadust Cancún, and in key markets like Mexico City and Cancún.
On the other, capturing the opportunity presented by “escape travelers” and digital nomads seeking to avoid crowds—what we call Blended Travel. This is where destinations like Mazul or Hotel Flamboyán become highly relevant, offering extended stays and Slow-Mo Travel experiences.
Ultimately, at ODENTIO, we operate under the principle of “Co-operation, Not Operation”—working side by side with owners to ensure that, regardless of the season, each hotel remains financially strong, culturally relevant, and deeply human.
