New York has no shortage of spas, but Spencer’s offers something a little different. With locations in SoHo and Williamsburg, the spa pairs highly personalized treatments with intimate, thoughtfully designed spaces, creating an experience that feels elevated without being overly formal.
Founded by Ryan McCarthy, Spencer’s was conceived as an alternative to the two extremes that have long defined New York wellness: the ultra-luxury hotel spa and the more transactional neighborhood massage experience. The idea was to create something in between—a place that feels private, polished, and distinctly personal.
That philosophy is immediately apparent in the spaces themselves. Rather than leaning into the minimalism that has come to define so much of modern wellness, Spencer’s feels collected and personal. Art, vintage-inspired furnishings, books, flowers, and unexpected objects give the interiors the feeling of stepping into an eccentric, beautifully curated home rather than a traditional spa.

The Spencer’s Approach
At the center of the experience is bodywork. The Spencer’s Signature Body Massage combines techniques drawn from Swedish, deep tissue, Thai, and Lomi Lomi traditions, adapting the treatment to what each guest needs that day. Depending on the treatment, elements such as aromatherapy, hot and cold stones, stretching, scalp massage, and myofascial release can also become part of the experience.
The result is less about following a rigid formula and more about personalization. Guests are encouraged to arrive early, settle into the lounge, and stay for a moment afterward, making the experience feel intentionally removed from the pace of the city outside.
It is this personalized approach, paired with Spencer’s distinctive interiors and intimate atmosphere, that has helped the spa carve out its own place within New York’s increasingly crowded wellness landscape.

A More Seamless Way to Book
Now, Spencer’s is extending that same attention to detail beyond the treatment room.
The spa has introduced a new booking platform designed to make scheduling appointments significantly easier. A streamlined two-step verification process simplifies the booking experience, addressing some of the friction guests encountered with the previous system.
The new platform also creates a more connected Spencer’s experience. Guests can manage their treatments more easily, while memberships and gift cards can now be used across locations, offering greater flexibility for regular clients.
It is a practical change, but an important one. When wellness is meant to make life feel easier, the experience should feel effortless from the moment you decide to book.

Wellness That Works With New York
Perhaps what Spencer’s gets right is that self-care in New York does not always need to mean disappearing for an entire day. Sometimes, it is simply about having a trusted place to return to after a long week, between meetings, or whenever the city starts to feel like too much. Spencer’s makes that ritual feel considered without overcomplicating it. From the interiors and personalized treatments to its newly upgraded booking experience, every detail is designed to make the act of slowing down a little easier. And in New York, that might be the ultimate luxury.
