Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Steve McCurry developed an early interest in visual storytelling, which led him to study cinematography at Penn State University. McCurry’s journey into the world of photography began with a transformative trip to India, capturing the essence of daily life with his camera. His travels eventually led him to Pakistan and then to Afghanistan, during a time of great turmoil due to the Soviet invasion, where he captured some of the earliest and most powerful images of the conflict.
