While Six Senses Ibiza is best known for its dramatic clifftop setting overlooking the Mediterranean, one of its most memorable experiences lies inland. Just 30 minutes from the resort, The Farm reveals a quieter side of Ibiza, where regenerative agriculture, local traditions, and slow living take center stage.

Located at Can Tanca, a centuries-old finca in Sant Miquel de Balansat, the experience invites guests to discover an Ibiza shaped by its farmland rather than its beach clubs. Here, historic architecture, seasonal produce, and a deep connection to the land tell a very different story about the island.

A 400-year-old finca at the heart of Six Senses Ibiza

The history of Can Tanca stretches back more than four centuries. Long before it became part of Six Senses Ibiza, the estate belonged to an Ibizan family who lived from the land, raising livestock and cultivating crops that sustained everyday life. That agricultural heritage remains visible throughout the property today.

The search for the finca was closely tied to the origins of the resort itself. When Jonathan, the former owner of Six Senses Ibiza, envisioned creating a genuine farm-to-table program, he wanted a property where food could be grown naturally, free from chemical fertilizers and pesticides. Together with Kobe, who was responsible for finding the right location, they eventually discovered Can Tanca, a fertile estate known for its abundant underground water resources.

This reliable water supply made the property uniquely suited for regenerative farming and ultimately became one of the defining characteristics of the project.

Where the vision for Six Senses Ibiza took shape

Before the resort officially opened, Can Tanca served as an informal headquarters for the architects, designers, and creative teams developing Six Senses Ibiza. Many of the conversations that shaped the property’s philosophy happened inside these walls, reinforcing values that continue to define the resort today: respect for nature, thoughtful architecture, natural materials, and a strong connection to Ibiza’s cultural identity.

Many original elements of the finca have been carefully preserved. The largest upstairs room once functioned as a natural drying loft where tomatoes, seeds, and other produce were cured using Ibiza’s climate.

On the ground floor, former agricultural spaces have been thoughtfully adapted for new purposes while preserving their original character. One room now hosts wellness activities such as yoga, another serves as an office, while the current kitchen was once the goat stable. The traditional wood-fired oven remains intact and is still used during selected workshops and events.

Another particularly meaningful space is the former trull, where olive oil was once produced. Although much of the original machinery has disappeared over time, a large stone and wheel remain as reminders of the building’s agricultural past. Today, the space functions as an intimate art gallery.

Throughout the house, thick whitewashed walls, original sabina wood ceilings, and traditional Ibizan architectural details continue to define the atmosphere. Even the darkened ceiling above the main living room tells part of the story, its color shaped by decades of smoke from indoor fires that once warmed the house while naturally preserving the timber.

The Learning Center and the philosophy behind The Farm

Today, Can Tanca serves as the home of The Farm and the Six Senses Ibiza Learning Center, a space where farmers, artisans, wellness practitioners, and local organizations come together to share knowledge through workshops, educational programs, and cultural experiences rooted in Ibiza’s traditions.

Every visit begins with an herbal infusion prepared using plants harvested directly from the estate.

Guests then board a tractor for a guided tour through the orchards and vegetable gardens, learning about seasonal crops, regenerative farming techniques, and the daily work required to care for the land. Along the way, they harvest fruits, vegetables, and herbs that will later become part of lunch.

That connection transforms the dining experience. By the time guests sit down, they already know where many of the ingredients came from—and the people who cultivated them. The same team responsible for tending the gardens welcomes visitors, leads the tours, and hosts the meal, creating an experience that feels deeply personal.

Seasonal dining rooted in the land

Lunch is served outdoors beneath the trees surrounding the farmhouse. The seasonal menu changes throughout the year and showcases ingredients grown on the property, from vegetables and fruit to aromatic herbs and estate-produced olive oil.

Because guests have already walked through the gardens before sitting down to eat, every course carries a stronger sense of place and purpose.

Beyond lunch, The Farm also offers immersive workshops such as Herbs & Flaó, where participants harvest fresh ingredients before preparing one of Ibiza’s most traditional desserts. Additional experiences include breathwork sessions, forest bathing, children’s activities, and conversations with local organizations dedicated to preserving the island’s natural and cultural heritage.

A different side of Ibiza

Throughout the visit, the soundtrack is remarkably simple: birdsong, rustling trees, and the breeze moving across the countryside. The atmosphere feels entirely different from the energy of the resort, offering a slower and more authentic way to experience Ibiza.

Rather than focusing on nightlife or beach clubs, The Farm at Six Senses Ibiza celebrates the island’s agricultural traditions, local community, and natural landscapes. It is an experience where gastronomy, wellness, sustainability, and heritage come together to reveal a side of Ibiza that many travelers never have the opportunity to discover.
