Some landscapes make you want to take a photograph. The Atacama Desert makes you question whether what you are looking at can possibly be real.
Salt flats stretch toward snow-covered volcanoes, turquoise lagoons appear in the Altiplano, flamingos move through glassy water, and the night sky reveals an entirely different version of the landscape. Just outside San Pedro de Atacama, Tierra Atacama offers a front-row seat to all of it.
Fresh from a major renovation completed in 2025, the lodge has reimagined its relationship with the desert rather than simply becoming newer or more luxurious. The original 150-year-old adobe walls of a former cattle corral remain, now joined by contemporary interiors, local materials, and work from more than 40 regional artisans.

Tierra Atacama Starts With the Landscape
The Andes and Licancabur Volcano dominate the view, and nearly everything at Tierra Atacama is designed around looking outward.
Twenty-eight rooms bring the desert inside through expansive windows, natural textures, private terraces, and open-air showers. Beyond them, the lodge unfolds into gardens, pools, fireplaces, and quiet spaces that make returning from a day outside almost as appealing as leaving for one.
And leaving is a big part of the experience.

Excursions range from horseback rides and high-altitude hikes to Moon Valley, the Salar de Atacama, Andean lagoons, and Chaxa Lagoon, where three species of flamingos can be spotted across the salt flats. At night, professional telescopes turn toward some of the clearest skies on Earth.
Back at the lodge, the Uma Spa takes over. An infinity pool and jacuzzi face Licancabur, while locally inspired treatments use botanicals including rica rica and chañar.
The smartest thing about Tierra Atacama is that none of this tries to compete with its surroundings. The architecture, food, wellness, and adventures all point back toward the same thing.
The desert is still the main event.
