Some of Mexico’s most remarkable spirits are inseparable from the communities that have preserved them for generations. Raicilla is one of them.
Produced in different regions of Jalisco using traditional methods passed down through families for decades, the agave distillate remains one of Mexico’s most distinctive yet lesser-known expressions. Now, it takes center stage at Naviva, A Four Seasons Resort, through a new immersive experience designed to connect travelers with the landscapes, traditions, and people behind its story.
Set on a private peninsula overlooking the Pacific in Punta Mita, the resort has launched Road to Raicilla, an experience that goes far beyond a tasting. Instead, it offers guests a deeper understanding of the culture and communities that continue to shape this uniquely Mexican spirit.
Exploring the Many Faces of Raicilla
The program unfolds through two distinct journeys that reveal the diversity of raicilla production across Jalisco.
The first explores the coastal region of Cabo Corrientes, where guests cross the Bay of Banderas by boat, following historic maritime routes before arriving at family-owned tabernas where raicilla is still produced using traditional techniques. Tastings are led by master distillers who share the stories, methods, and knowledge that have been passed down through generations.

The second route ventures into the mountains surrounding San Sebastián del Oeste, one of Jalisco’s most celebrated Pueblos Mágicos. Surrounded by forests and dramatic landscapes, the region offers a different expression of raicilla, known for its more herbal and structured character. Visits to local distilleries and encounters with producers provide insight into the slower rhythms and traditions that continue to define life in the Sierra.
A Tradition Continued at Naviva
The experience extends beyond the excursions themselves.
Back at Naviva, guests can explore the resort’s traditional Filipino oven, an ancestral technique used during the early stages of raicilla production. The method is linked to centuries of cultural exchange between Mexico and Asia through Pacific trade routes and allows agave piñas to cook slowly, developing the smoky and earthy aromas that characterize the spirit.
Curated tastings feature two artisanal distillates produced exclusively for the resort, offering a rare opportunity to experience expressions unavailable elsewhere.
At Copal Kitchen, chef Sofía Mojica complements the experience with seasonal pairings inspired by regional ingredients and the nuances of the spirit itself. On select dates, local producers and distillers also participate in intimate dinners where guests can engage directly with the people responsible for preserving the traditions surrounding raicilla.

Connecting With Mexico Through Experience
Road to Raicilla reflects the broader philosophy behind Naviva, where every stay is designed around personal interests and meaningful connections.
Alongside an all-inclusive culinary program, the resort offers experiences centered on nature, wellness, and local culture, creating opportunities for guests to engage with Mexico through a more intimate and authentic lens.
With Road to Raicilla, Naviva expands its portfolio of immersive experiences while reinforcing its commitment to preserving Mexican traditions. More importantly, it invites travelers to discover one of the country’s most distinctive spirits through the people who have dedicated their lives to keeping its story alive.
